Print on Demand Phone Cases - making money with accessories
It used to be that handbags were THE designer accessory. Reassuringly expensive they remain both a status symbol and a statement, as well as practical and necessary. But, during a period when staying at home was the new going out, and our smartphones and tablets become our most treasured communication lifeline, phone cases were experiencing a similar “moment”.
The future’s bright
According to the latest analysis and forecasts, whatever the network and whatever the model, the growth of smartphones and phone cases shows no sign of slowing. There are phone covers out there, like this Chanel version for iPhone XII (a snip at a mere $1350) that will set you back more than the phone itself. While it’s unlikely to be flying off the shelves, it’s a sign that budget and demand exists and likely profit up for grabs for designers/creators with the right POD partner.
Satisfying five consumer-driven criteria though is key: -
1. Make and model
The ability to only offer a single brand or restricted range of models is going to limit your opportunities, so that’s a definite no-no. When it comes to phones, Apple’s latest iPhone 12 – currently 2021’s bestseller - will have to be on the list; be sure to offer all models as far back as the iPhone 5/5S along with the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Notes range too.
2. Large and small
While most attention is given to phones, offering a range of personalised and protective tablet covers quickly expands your range, and vitally your revenue prospects. The latest iPad Pro 12.9 costs big bucks and, even the smaller iPad Minis don’t exactly come cheap, so users are at pains to keep them in pristine condition and looking appealing. Your unique designs could be exactly what they are searching for!
3. Tough and tougher
When it comes to personalised cases, beautiful AND useful is the order of the day. Of course, they need to look good but the precious and expensive cargo within needs protection. Ensure your customers have the choice; a standard case lightweight and scratch-resistant, or a tougher more rugged case that is shatterproof and with cushioning inside. It’s up to them.
4. Text and images
Work with a POD partner that offers the ability to personalise with both text and imagery, and a range of layouts, backgrounds and colourways. Spoil them for choice and give them plenty of suggestions and inspiration to prevent that dreaded basket abandonment.
5. Fast and simple
Consumers want it now, if not sooner! Once they’ve made their selection, the fewer the clicks and the shorter the wait, the greater the satisfaction. A real-time preview and speedy checkout process all backed up by a trouble-free delivery and quality end-product has to be a given.
“ Significant reduction in average selling prices of smartphones, rising trends of online video viewing, increasing access to social networking sites, as well as online e-commerce penetration, is likely to prop up the demand for smartphones which will positively impact the growth of the mobile phone protective cases market…”
